In this video, CBT Nuggets trainer Jeff Kish covers Spanning Tree Protocol 802.1D (STP) and how it's used in data centers (even if you already have alternatives to it).
You have a number of alternatives to spanning tree protocol available to you when designing a network — and you're probably eager to rely on them. Outside the data center, you can deploy chassis switches, VSS, and stackable switches. Inside the data center, virtual port channels can help you work around STP as well.
But no matter what you do, you'll still need STP running underneath that topology. Even if you do everything you can to avoid relying on spanning tree, all it takes is one loop to bring your carefully planned network to its knees. After this video, you'll understand how STP functions in a data center and how to use it to the extent you're comfortable with.
