London Blitz WW2 Civilian Hero Margaret Braithwaite (Air Raid Warden)
Margaret Braithwaite was thirty-seven years old, an Air Raid Warden in Poplar, who died while serving her community during the London Blitz.
She was a pacifist, deeply involved in local life, and ran from her home to help others during an air raid. She was later found beneath debris outside her post.
Margaret was remembered with Braithwaite House, named in her honour as the first woman to lose her life in the wardens’ service in Poplar.
This short is part of my documentary Remember Them: Civilian Heroes of the London Blitz, honouring the civilians who died protecting others during WW2.
They were civilians.
They were heroes.
And they must not be forgotten.
