Pat Buttram was co founder of the Golden Boot Awards, where the 'board of the Boot Awards' would select various actors, actresses, stuntmen/women and others to receive an award for their contribution(s) to Westerns .. This party is the night before (I should say WAS as there has been a problem with the 'Motion Picture Fund/home') .. the Golden Boot Awards . it was open to those who knew about it and wanted to go .. put on by Jim Roberts & Caruth C.Byrd .. they would always have entertainment, food and you could buy drinks .. rest was free .. even to get in it was free until several years ago when they charged a small amount to help defray all the monies they put out .. You will see many familiar faces .. I am sorry that I was not able to get up and walk around, would have been better .. Doug McClure is certainly obvious, Cesar Romero with his friend, I forget her name and she was a movie star too .. slightly harder to see as they walk in, as is Dale Robertson, Cesar does speak at the Microphone and winds up saying that he has done many movies, but seems to only be remembered as 'The Joker' in "Batman, the series' .. I loved watching him when he was on that show .. I worked at that studio .. Desilu Culver .. The voice you hear and a glimpse of the man next to me was Jess Barker, who was married for a long time to Susan Hayward . they remained good friend til the day she died. You will see him trying to snap a photo of Dougie .. There were two men walking about one dressed as John Wayne & the other as Glenn (forgot:( ) .. they are at autograph shows as well .. thus the introduction to John Wayne was NOT John Wayne, but the impersonator of him. As you can see it started early and went late into the night . I did not stay until the end . I do not think that Bob Fuller was there that night OR he arrived after I left. It was always a fun time as were the Golden Boot Awards . How time changes things, both big and small.
A bit about Pat from his history & this Golden Boot Awards annual (til now) event:
Throughout his career, Pat was in constant demand as a toastmaster and after dinner speaker, where his agile and sophisticated wit belied his ingenuous appearance. In 1982, Pat founded the Golden Boot Awards to honor actors, directors, stunt people and other industry professionals who have made significant contributions to the Western film genre. Proceeds from the annual event are donated to the Motion Picture Health and Welfare Fund.
