The yellow‑bellied marmot, a sturdy ground squirrel, is a familiar sight around Jenny Lake, especially along the rocky slopes near Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. With its stocky build, yellow‑brown fur, and short bushy tail, it’s easy to recognize.
The one we spotted had an adorable habit—each step came with a little tail swirl, as if it were showing off.
Marmots spend their days basking on sun‑warmed boulders, foraging through meadows, and whistling alerts across the rocks. This rugged landscape suits them perfectly.
