Having made his Ovum debut alongside Michael Penman on the hugly popular Shimmer EP back in 2013, Berlins US born resident Ambivalent returns to the label, flying solo, with his fantastic new double-header Phase Doubt.
A decade of making music has seen Ambivalent showcase his work on a envious list of labels from Minus to Mobilee, Cocoon to Clink and many more. Always looking to evolve, 2012 saw new faces and sounds from the American in the form of the housier Amber and the techno-tangent of LA-4A, both backed by the launch of his new vinyl imprint Valence. A busy, inspiring and impressively productive period.
The Phase Doubt EP is his most recent creation and again sees Ambivalent avoid tiring techno templates to inspire with the latin rhythms and uplifting melodies of the title track. Dancing synth riffs, pulsing chords and scattered, rapid, snares all come together to create an exotic and heady opening number. On the flip, Selfed Out is built around its epic lead synth that both creates and dominates the outrageous groove and drive of the track. Stunning.
