The UN estimates that 68% of world population will live in urban areas in 2050. This development could add another 2.5 billion people to urban areas by 2050, with close to 90% of this increase taking place in Asia and Africa.

Overall, megacities, especially in the global south, are faced with three mega-problems – fragmented governance structures, inequality and climate change. As a consequence, many of these cities will face challenges in meeting the needs of their growing urban populations, including for housing, transportation, energy systems and other infrastructure, as well as for employment and basic services such as education and health care.

How can cross-sectoral partnerships contribute to solving these challenges?
