Everyone is always going to Istanbul or Cappadocia, but Türkiye is actually a lot more than just hot air balloons. Here are four underrated spots in Türkiye that you can include on your next travel bucketlist:

𝟭. 𝗚ö𝗯𝗲𝗸𝗹𝗶 𝗧𝗲𝗽𝗲 - Discovered in the 90s, this is the world’s oldest human settlement known to mankind (more than 7,000 years older than the Pyramids 😱). As it’s a recent discovery with only less than 5% being excavated, there’s still much to uncover about this site, with some saying it might be a ‘place of worship’.

𝟮. 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶 - Honestly, when we first came to this place, we couldn’t believe that we’re in Türkiye! The town is divided into two sections — the sunken ‘old town’ that has been around as early as 855 BC, and the ‘new town’ where the locals reside in after the flooding. Over here, you can rent a boat tour that takes you through the lake, and marvel at the beautiful sights. ⛴️

𝟯. Ş𝗮𝗻𝗹ı𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮 - Commonly referred to as the ‘Jerusalem of Anatolia’, this ancient city is known for their rich culture and sacred sites, like the sacred fish lake Balıklıgöl, and the Halil-ur-Rahman Mosque, where it’s said to be the birthplace of the Prophet Abraham. The Old Town is filled with lush greenery and bustling bazaars, almost like an oasis in the desert. 🐪

𝟰. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻 - Our personal favourite, this legendary city is so well-preserved, the entire city is marked as a UNESCO Heritage Site. Situated on top of a steep hill, you get an unobstructed view of the vast plains of Mesopotamia, making it seem like you’ve travelled back in time when it was still an ancient fortress. ☀️

All of these spots are situated in the southeastern part of Türkiye, just a short 2-hour flight from Istanbul Airport. We recommend flying by @turkishairlines if you value comfort and efficiency, the entire journey was such a breeze~ ✈️
