एक बार ऋषियों ने कहा— सूत जी! माघ मास शुरू हो रहा है, आप हमें माघ का माहात्म्य सुनाने की कृपा करें, जिसको सुनने से लोगों का महान् संशय दूर हो जाय। सूतजी बोले— हे मुनियों,आप भगवान् श्री कृष्ण के परम भक्त हैं; इसीलिये आप सभी बार-बार गोविंद जी की कथाएँ पूछते हैं। आप सब की जिज्ञासा को शांत करने के लिए अब मैं माघ-माहात्म्य का वर्णन करूँगा; जो अरुणोदय काल में स्नान करके भक्ति भाव से इसे सुनते हैं, उनके पुण्य की वृद्धि और पाप का नाश होता है।

Sutji said - O Munis, you are the supreme devotee of Lord Krishna; That is why all of you ask the stories of Govind ji again and again. To pacify the curiosity of all of you, I will now describe the greatness; Those who take bath in the Arunodaya period and listen to it with devotion, their virtue increases and sin is destroyed. Those who want to get the best speed without home, yagya and favorable deeds, they should bathe in the water outside in the morning in Magh. Those who want to go to heaven without donating things like cow, land, sesame, clothes, gold and grains etc., they should always bathe in the morning in the Magh. Those who want to get to heaven without fasting their bodies, fasting for three nights, without having to eat their body, etc., should also bathe in the morning in the morning. Those who have done the morning, many kinds of charity and hymns of Lord Vishnu in Magha, they live happily in the divine abode. By renunciation of the beloved thing and following the rules, the Magh month is always a religious seeker and cuts off the roots of unrighteousness. If the Magh bath is done with a low price, then it fulfills the desired fruit, and if you take a bath with the helpless spirit, then it will give salvation. Those who donate continuously, do penance by staying in the forest and are always engaged in hospitality, those who receive the celestial light, they also get those who take bath. Human beings who have gone to heaven by other virtues return from there after their virtue is over; But the people taking bath in the Magh never come back from there.
