Use Steam Input to play Hytale with a controller. This method adds the Hytale Launcher as a non-Steam game, then applies a community controller layout in Big Picture Mode. You will still need your mouse for the launcher and menus until you load into the world, then the controller takes over.

What you need:
A controller connected via Bluetooth or USB
Steam installed
Hytale Launcher installed

Open Steam Big Picture Mode
Choose a community controller layout
Launch Hytale and play with controller

Notes:

Community layouts vary. If one feels weird, try a different one until it matches what you want.

This is the cleanest “right now” solution since Hytale is not on Steam during Early Access.
