The Tragic Story of Iran's Most Famous Singer
Biography of Hoameira
Hoameira, born Parvaneh Amirafshari on March 17, 1945, in Tehran, Iran, comes from a wealthy and influential family with Azerbaijani roots. Her father owned 150 towns and villages in eastern Iran, and their home was a gathering place for many famous artists of the time.
Early Career
Hoameira developed an interest in music from an early age. Encouraged by her husband, who had recently returned from Germany, she enrolled in a radio audition and began training under the supervision of Master Ali Tajvidi. At the age of 19, she gained fame with her performance of "Sabr-e Man Ata Kon" (Grant Me Patience). Due to her father's disapproval of her artistic career, she adopted the stage name "Hamira."
Personal and Professional Life
Hoameira married three times. Her first marriage was at the age of 19 and ended in divorce. She then married Parviz Yahaghi, which also ended after eight years. Her third marriage was to Massoudnia, with whom she had a daughter named Yasmin. After the Iranian Revolution, Hamira immigrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles.
Musical Career
Hoameira has been active in various genres of music, including pop, fusion, and traditional. Her voice is a rare soprano, which has contributed to her enduring popularity. She has collaborated with many renowned composers and has remained at the peak of her career for over 40 years. Hamira introduced a new style in traditional Iranian music, known as "Hamiraisms," bringing freshness and vitality to the genre.
Challenges
Hoameira faced numerous challenges throughout her life. She was disowned by her family due to her artistic pursuits and was deprived of her inheritance. Additionally, she experienced severe depression in Costa Rica and spent a year under psychiatric treatment. In 1999, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor but miraculously recovered after surgery.
