Africa’s Largest Airport Planned as Ethiopia Launches $12.5 Billion Aviation Project

Описание: Ethiopia has officially launched construction of the $12.5 billion Bishoftu Mega International Airport, a project expected to become Africa’s largest aviation hub once completed. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed led the groundbreaking ceremony on January 10 near Bishoftu, southeast of Addis Ababa.

The airport will feature four runways and an initial annual capacity of 60 million passengers, with plans to expand to 110 million passengers, according to Ethiopian Airlines. Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said approximately $6 billion in financing has already been secured, with further backing anticipated from partners in the Middle East, China, Europe, the United States, and the African Development Bank.
