The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is sounding the alarm following a major announcement from the Government of Jamaica today, July 1, 2025. Energy Minister Daryl Vaz revealed that the Government will not be renewing JPS’s all-island license under the existing terms when it expires in 2027.

In response, JPS President and CEO Hugh Grant issued a statement expressing "grave concern" and indicating that the company’s leadership, shareholders, and legal teams will be reviewing the implications of this development.

Opposition Spokesman on Energy Phillip Paulwell has also weighed in, urging the Government to ensure that any new arrangement results in fairer terms, real competition, and lower electricity costs for Jamaicans.
