Join me on an aerial tour over the Longdendale chain of reservoirs, for a calming view from the sky.
Well five out of six of them anyway! Arnfield Reservoir is disconnected from the others directly (Unless you can get underground) but still officially part of the chain.
The Longdendale Valley in the Peak District is an area of vast beauty. Yet it's also not particularly easy to park in! So exploring the length of them on foot isn't an easy task for those without a solid walking fitness.
It's possible to walk the entirety of the reservoirs using the Longdendale Trail, starting in Hadfield, and finishing by the old disused train tunnels at the Woodhead end, up by Three Black Cloughs. But that's no mean feat at 6.5 miles (10.4km) one way.
So if you want to see some of the big views of the Valley all at once (some of the Peak District's best) then take a calm aerial tour with me from Bottom(s) to top (Woodhead). As I show off some of the spectacular views surrounding the water. Bramah Edge, Crowden, Tintwistle Knarr, Torside Clough all make an appearance. With the moors of Bleaklow, Featherbed and Bareholme Moss in the background. The countryside getting wilder the further up we get into the valley.
Reservoirs featured from bottom to top order:
Bottoms
Valehouse
Rhodeswood
Torside
Woodhead
