PE Games: Nitroball

Nitroball is a fun net game that resembles tennis and volleyball. It can be played inside on a volleyball court or outside on a tennis court.

Start the lesson by having students view a video of nitroball being played to give them a visual of the game being played.

Have students find a partner and give each group a ball. Then practice hitting the ball nitroball style which is allowing the ball to bounce before hitting it will a closed hand. Practice for 2-3 minutes

Next, have them practice serving. They can bounce or hold the ball in their hand then strike the ball with an underhand motion. Their partner will let the ball bounce and catch the ball before serving it back to their partner. Practice for 2-3 minutes

Now we are ready to play. The class in the video was split into 4 groups and there is 2 games going on simultaneously

Instruct teams to RPS for serve. The winning team serves first from a designated line. The ball must clear the net without touching it and bounce on the opponent's side. The other side now has three touches before they need to send it to the other side and land inbounds. Teams do net need to take all three touches.

Constantly remind players to let the ball bounce before striking it. A ball hit before the bounce is a fault and a point is awarded to the other team.

Points are scored on every rally. If a team wins a point while serving, they continue to serve until they lose a point. The serve would then go to their opponent. Students should take turns serving.

A few reminders for students should be to let the ball bounce before striking, balls that hit the net on a serve are faults and a ball that lands on the boundary line are out. Players should also announce their teams score then their opponents score before serving.
