Before becoming Pope John Paul II, Karol Wojtyła wrote the play The Jeweler’s Shop, published in 1960 under the pseudonym André Wajda. The three-act work reflects deeply on the sacrament of matrimony through the stories of three couples linked by a jeweler’s shop where wedding rings symbolize commitment and human connection. In 1988, the play was adapted into a film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Burt Lancaster and Olivia Hussey. Pope John Paul II later praised the adaptation as “the best possible film based on my play,” noting its faithfulness to his original vision. Ameen.
