pencil's sketch/drawing slowly getting messier at the end is intentional, it's mean to represent her sanity as she progressively dives into the mess she is now (as of TPOT 17), the teardrops getting darker and bigger are meant to show she's uh, shedding more tears, i guess? and the waves are also darker and messier too
