I will share a shocking story. In Perrysburg, Ohio, a 24-year-old man from Venezuela was arrested on suspicion that he pretended to be a 16-year-old high school student. His name is Anthony Emmanuel Labrador Sierra.

Police said he contacted a local school district in November 2023 and wanted to enroll as a student, saying he is homeless and an immigrant from Venezuela. He was able to set up a meeting with the school and presented them a birth certificate that said he was born in 2007. He enrolled in a high school in January 2024 and local officials helped him to be placed at a family’s home. Anthony was on the school’s soccer and swim teams.

In May of this year, a woman contacted the family to inform them that Anthony was actually a 24-year-old and the father of her child, and presented evidence in the form of his other driver’s license with a birthdate of 2001 and images showing her with Anthony and a small child.

That’s when law enforcement got involved — and it was confirmed that Anthony was born in 2001, meaning he is 24. He had an expired work visa and was illegally in the country.

On Monday, Anthony was arrested and charged with forgery. He is currently in custody.

As you can imagine, this came as a big shock to the Perrysburg High school community. The superintendent said it was a heartbreaking situation that was deceptive. Parents have called on the school to have stricter background checks.
