Can you use regular gardening soil in raised beds? Tune in to find out! ⏯️
This week on Digging in with gardenstead, Katie is joined by Aaron Deacon of @biosnutrients to answer some outdoor gardening FAQs from gardenstead’s Facebook groups.
🪱 According to Aaron, yes you can!
🌱 He says that plants in raised beds need good water retention and aeration to thrive.
🪱 His recommendation for soil in raised beds is to get triple mix from a vetted source and amend it with compost.
🌱 What is triple mix?
🪱 Triple mix can actually mean different things in different places. Generally, it refers to good gardening soil.
🌱 While there’s no guarantee that triple mix contains these ingredients, one type of triple mix is 1/3 topsoil, 1/3 peat moss, and 1/3 compost.
🪱 Another type of triple mix is a blend of compost, sandy soil, and black loam.
🌱 What does this mean for you?
🪱 Be careful when you’re sourcing your triple mix.
🌱 Pay attention to the ingredients and make sure you buy from a reputable source to assure that your mix doesn’t contain things like weed seeds and bark.
