Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that ED officers probing I-PAC under Section 17 of the PMLA had their files allegedly taken by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and local police officers, calling it “theft,” and alleging that an ED officer’s phone was also seized. He warned that such incidents would embolden future interference and demoralise central forces. Mehta urged the Court to set an example by ensuring suspension of officers present at the scene. When Justice Mishra asked if the Supreme Court should suspend them directly, SG responded that the Court should direct the competent authority and take cognizance.
