UDDE 607 – Urban Research Lab - Master's Course in VR at the CRID - Students Work - SPRING 2025

Описание: Educating the next generation of urban designers to create future cities inside virtual reality. This Course is part of the Master's in Urban Design and Digital Environements (MUDDE) Program at the Department of Architecture, the School of Architecture, Art, and Design, at the American University in Dubai. Titled "SKY ISLAND: The Future Virtual Airborne City" Student spent more that 50 hours inside virtual reality and gained a VR Sketch Certification at the end of the course.

In the absence of gravity, societies learn to redefine their boundaries, reimagine their possibilities, and reconnect with the essence of being. The future of humanity may not be bound to the Earth’s surface. As the physical world grapples with challenges like overpopulation, climate change, and diminishing resources, a parallel society is emerging—one that thrives in the limitless expanse of the virtual void. This airborne society exists in the sky where gravity is no longer a constraint, where architecture transcends the physical and embraces the virtual, and where cultures evolve in unprecedented ways. This project invites you to envision and design Sky Island, a virtual airborne city that serves as a sanctuary for future societies. Anchored in sustainability, a new cultural identity, resilience, and technological advancement, your Sky Island should embody the aspirations of a society untethered from the Earth. It is a place where architecture, urban planning, environmental systems, and emerging technologies harmonize to create a livable, immersive, and meaningful future.
