Описание: වර්තමානයේ මෙන් ගමනාගමනය සඳහා යාන වාහන නොතිබූ එකල ගමන් බිමන් හා වෙළඳාම් අවශ්‍යතාවය සපුරා ගැනීම සඳහා ජල මාර්ගයෙන් පාරුවද ගොඩබිමෙහි කරන්තයට භාවිතා කරන ලදී.
ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය මිනිසුන් අතර භාවිතා කරන ලද විවිධ කරත්ත වර්ග ඇත.
තිරික්කලය ,අශ්ව කරත්තය, ගොන් කරත්තය , තවලම බරබාගේ ,බක්කි කරත්තය ආදිය ඊට නිදසුන්ය. මේවා විවිධ අවශ්‍යතා සපුරා ගැනීම සඳහා භාවිතා කරන ලදී.
ගමනාගමනයේදී මෙන්ම වෙළඳාමේදීද කරත්ත භාවිතා කළ අතර රට පුරා වෙළඳාම් කිරීම සදහා ගමන් ගන්නා විට කරත්ත කිහිපයක්, යොදා ගන්නා ලදි. මේවායේ යන අතරවාරයේ කවි කියූ අතර එමගින් තම විඩාව පාළුව ආදිය මගහරවා ගැනීමට හැකියාව ලැබුණි. එමෙන්ම කරත්ත කිහිපයක් ගමන් ගන්නා විට සතුරු කරදර ආදිය සිදුවිය හැකි බැවින් තමා කරත්තයේ සුරක්ෂිතව සිටින බව අනෙකාට සන්නිවේදනය කිරීම සඳහාද කවි ගායනය උපකාරී විය.මේවා කරත්ත කවි ලෙස නම් කළ හැකිය.

At that time, when there were no vehicles for transportation and trade, carts were used for that.
Various types of carts are used among Sri Lankans.
For example, Tirikkalaya, horse cart, bullock cart,thawalama , bakki karaththaya can be mentioned. These are used to fulfill various needs.
Carts were used in transportation as well as in trade and several carts were used when traveling to trade across the country. they used to recite poems while going to these places and was
able to overcome his tiredness and loneliness. Also, the singing of poems helped to communicate to the other that he is safe in the cart, as enemy trouble may occur when several carts are traveling. These can be called cart poems.
