Make sure to adjust quality to 1080p60 before watching What a unique experience this was! I absolutely loved my time at Jan's Pounamu in Franz Josef, New Zealand. Her studio was a dream. It's down a long dreamy driveway in a super quiet and peaceful country type of setting. She has the cutest pups to play with and a very warm and inviting workshop. Pounamu is New Zealand jade / greenstone. The Maori named the stone Pounamu and it is treasured in New Zealand culture. Green is my favorite color, so I've always had a natural affinity for jade. This experience was super fun because we got to pick out our own stone and come up with the design. I decided to make a teardrop necklace which proved to be pretty difficult because of the thickness of the stone. Jan taught us all about the history of Pounamu and gave us a rundown on how to carve the stones and we jumped right into it. My friend in the video, Larissa, also chose a larger stone so it took us about 45 minutes to finish the carving section. Once that was over, we did the polishing which was super tiring on the fingers! Haha. Overall, I felt this in my hands for a few days, but it was so worth it. Jan finished it up with oiling, drilling the hole and adding the string to complete the necklace and I was super happy with the finished product. The coolest part about the Pounamu is it takes on your energy you use when creating it, and that stays with you when you wear it. Also, if you choose to gift the piece, your energy lives on with it to whoever you decide to gift it to. This was an optional add on activity on my Kiwiana Panorama Contiki Tour. Our trip manager, Lucy, was awesome and highly recommended this activity. I'm really glad I did it as I learned more about the New Zealand culture and got to get creative. Thank you for tuning in! Hope you liked this week's episode. *This video was shot using my GoPro HERO 8.
