Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand continues his protest at the Prayagraj Magh Mela after his palanquin procession was stopped by the administration. The Shankaracharya spent the entire cold night on the pavement without food or water for more than 25 hours.
In a press conference on Monday afternoon, he clearly stated that he will not return to his ashram until the administration apologizes. He emphasized that traditionally Shankaracharyas always go for holy bathing in a palanquin. He also declared that without dignity and protocol, he will not take a dip in the Ganga.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand further announced that he will continue to come to Prayagraj every Magh Mela, but will stay on the footpath instead of a camp.
This incident has raised serious questions about religious dignity, administrative responsibility, and traditional respect at major religious events.
