A benign breast lump आमतौर पर smooth, soft-to-firm होती है और breast tissue के अंदर आसानी से move करती है, जिसे कई बार breast mouse भी कहा जाता है। ऐसे lumps के clear borders होते हैं और ये skin या nipple को pull नहीं करते।

इसके उलट, एक cancerous breast lump आमतौर पर hard, irregular shape की होती है और breast tissue से fixed होती है। इसमें nipple retraction, skin dimpling, या breast skin में changes दिखाई दे सकते हैं। कई patients को armpit में भी lump महसूस हो सकता है क्योंकि वहां lymph node involvement हो सकता है।

Doctor एक आसान तरीका भी बताते हैं breast self-examination (BSE) का—इसे periods के 3rd या 4th day पर करें। Mirror के सामने breast को observe करें, circular motion में palpate करें और nipple discharge या किसी भी तरह के बदलाव को check करें।

ध्यान रखें: 90% breast lumps cancerous नहीं होते, लेकिन किसी भी lump को ignore करना risky है। एक simple breast sonography clarity दे सकती है और यह आपके oncologist से मिलने से पहले पहला step होना चाहिए।
