Il nome Sbarcatore dei Turchi deriverebbe dal fatto che qui, anticamente, vi fosse un approdo molto amato dai pirati saraceni. Come sicuramente saprete, i saraceni venivano chiamati “Turchi”, perché gran parte di essi provenivano dall’attuale Turchia. I saraceni hanno tentato molte volte di invadere Augusta, come ad esempio nel luglio del 1551 o nel maggio del 1594. In quest’ultima occasione, arrivando dallo Sbarcatore dei Turchi, cercarono di invadere Augusta ma, non appena arrivarono, apparve San Domenico dal cielo, su un cavallo, brandendo una spada.
The name Landing of the Turks would derive from the fact that here, in ancient times, there was a landing place much loved by Saracen pirates. As I’m sure you know, the Saracens were called “Turks”, because most of them came from the present Turkey. The Saracens tried many times to invade Augusta, such as in July 1551 or May 1594. On this last occasion, coming from the Turks' Lander, they tried to invade Augusta but, as soon as they arrived, Saint Dominic appeared from heaven, on a horse, swinging a sword.
