"Μενεξέδες και ζουμπούλια" (Violets and Hyacinths) is mainly considered a traditional Greek folk song. Its origins are historically linked to both Greek
and Turkish musical traditions, often associated with the musical traditions of Smyrna/Istanbul and the refugees who settled in Piraeus, Greece, around 1922.
Also, some sources suggest roots in the Ionian Islands of Greece (Kefalonia) too, though the Smyrna connection is more prevalent in scholarly discussion.
It was famously sung by Greek populations in Smyrna before the population exchange of the 1920s. This folk tune featuring themes of nature and
romance, is a traditional love serenade, frequently performed in modern music by various artists (mainly from Greece and Turkey).
Regardless the origins of the song, it's a lovely tune that inspired us to create this breakcore-ish / IDM cover. Hope you like it as much as we do.
