This decision followed the Nitish Kumar-led state cabinet's endorsement of the proposal, aiming to increase quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Extremely Backward Classes in government jobs and state-run educational institutions to 65 percent.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a debate after presenting a detailed report on the state-wide caste survey on Tuesday, proposed raising the quota limit for OBCs and EBCs from 30 percent to 43 percent. Currently, Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) have an 18 percent quota, while Other Backward Classes (OBCs) enjoy a 12 percent reservation. Additionally, there is a 16 percent reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and a one percent reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs).
