Vinothkumar has been sentenced to death for the 2019 caste-based honour killing of his brother Kanagaraj and sister-in-law Varshini Priya in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. The couple's marriage, which went against Vinothkumar's wishes due to their different castes, led to a brutal attack on June 25, 2019. Vinothkumar murdered Kanagaraj and severely injured Varshini Priya, who later died in the hospital.Vinothkumar was arrested alongside three accomplices, though the others were acquitted. The Coimbatore Special Court, led by Judge Vivekanandan, found Vinothkumar guilty and sentenced him to death. He was taken into custody after the verdict.
