White peas/Vatana (250 gms/1 cup) – soaked overnight
Heat Oil – 3-4 Tbsp
Sliced onions – 2 nos. (medium)
Grated dry coconut – ½ cup
Til seeds – 1 tsp
Black pepper – 3-4 nos
Green chillies – 2 nos.
Garlic (4) ginger (1 piece)
Coriander leaves – 1/4th cup
Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Dhaniya Jeera powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric /haldi powder- ½ tsp
Garam masala – 1 tsp
Rai /Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Jeera – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – 6-7 nos
Pinch of Hing
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander - for garnish
This usal pav is a traditional Maharashtrian style recipe. Also called as vatana usal made from dry white peas. This Malvani usal is very yummy and spicy in taste. An onion and coconut based gravy served with toasted pav or bread. A very delicious recipe and easy to make, give it a try.
