This 928 comes to us with the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (#9289100963) as well as all of the EPA Import documents dated 11/1984 and about $10k in recent service invoices that included the A/C as well as a new timing belt. The first-ever production V8 Porsche, the 928 was launched in Europe in 1977 and was exported to the U.S. market the following year. The muscular yet luxurious 928 was intended to replace the highly popular and highly strung 911 & but differentiated itself as a more mature and refined alternative. As if to underline the evolution of the marque, Porsche broke with its penchant for rear-engined, air-cooled engineering by endowing the 928 with a forward placed, water-cooled 4.5-liter engine, capable of pulling the 928 to a top speed of 171 mph. Heralded as one of the world’s finest grand touring motor cars and was also the most expensive offering in the Porsche stable. This 928 may not have been driven by Tom Cruise, but it does remain largely original and has right at 18,050 miles on the odometer. It is one of the first-generation 928 models and was completed in October of 1978, being dressed in the highly sought after Minerva Blue Metallic over a black & gray Pascha interior and also with the highly desirable five-speed manual transmission. This superbly preserved, highly original and unmodified 1979 928 Porsche is already getting major notice in the collector world & set to be one of the new “highly collectible” vehicles in the near future!
