Due to the effects of declining air travel demand, Airbus has announced it will decrease its average production rate for commercial aircraft.

To begin, the Airbus A350 Family will decrease to a rate of 6 aircraft per month, which is down from 10 per month.

The A330 Family will decrease to a rate of 2 aircraft per month, down from 3.5 aircraft per month.

The A320 Family will decrease to a rate of 40 aircraft per month, down from an average of 60-63 aircraft per month.

As for Airbus’ Montreal-Mirabel factory which produces the Airbus A220, the manufacturer will decrease the A220 production rate from 5 aircraft to 4 aircraft per month.

Additionally, Airbus has suspended its Mobile, Alabama factory, which produces both A220 and A320 Family aircraft, until the end of the month.

For the first quarter of 2020, Airbus recorded 356 orders with 66 cancellations, resulting in a total of 290 net orders for the three months.

In March 2020, Airbus secured 10 Airbus A350 orders from an undisclosed customer as well as more A320neo Family aircraft from AerCap.

However, Airbus also saw some more cancellations in March 2020. LATAM cancelled four A350-900 and six A350-1000 orders. Kuwait Airways cancelled five A350-900 orders.

SaudiGulf confirmed its cancellation of 16 Airbus A220-300s. Avolon Aerospace, a major leasing company, cancelled six A320neos, two A321neos, and four A330-900neos.
