STORYLINE:
Protesters projected images and sounds from protests in Iran, during a demonstration in New York on Tuesday on behalf of Iranians who, they say, are unable to protest freely themselves following disputed elections held in June.
Approximately 40 people dressed in white lined the steps near New York's United Nations to form a human projection screen.
The opposition have staged dramatic protests, since Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed victory on June 12.
Demonstrators say voting was contaminated by fraud.
Protesters in Iran have continued to stage demonstrations as a show of survival and continued strength despite a fierce three-month-old crackdown against it since the presidential election.
The Iranian government waged a bloody crackdown and opposition groups say at least 72 protesters were killed.
Government officials maintain that only 36 people died, a claim Ahmadinejad has repeated.
Bitta Mostofi, one of the protesters in the US, said the human 'screen' demonstration was a way of giving Iranians a voice.
"Iranians actually in their own home recorded messages that say in Farsi and in English, 'Ahmadinejad is not my president,' so the idea tonight is to actually become the vessels for the Iranians," she said.
