She was best known for her work on The Andy Griffith Show and its sequel Mayberry RFD. Her role was of Millie Hutchins (later known as Millie Swanson) who was the bubbly and carefree character who provided much of the comic relief on both shows.

Her character was introduced later into the Andy Griffith Show. But she made such an impact that her character was written into Mayberry RFD.

And why not? She gained a reputation for playing bubbly and happy-go-lucky characters throughout her career. But she also was a member of the prestigious Actors Studio and had a remarkable career on stage including on Broadway.

Apart from her television career, she also had many supporting roles in major blockbuster films. She had an excellent work ethic and continued to act well into her 60s. She’s a great example of the importance of constantly working and improving your craft.

In her final years, she sadly developed Alzheimer’s Disease and spent time in a memory care facility which is where she passed away. But as we mourn her passing, we should also look back at her remarkable career.

Her life is the story of someone who came from humble beginnings and found her passion at an early stage. She began taking acting classes early in her career before moving onto the stage.

After working through many bit parts in television, she landed her most famous role in the Andy Griffith Show which she later continued in Mayberry RFD. But she didn’t stop after that. She continued working in television and film. She’s an inspiration to anyone who wants to follow their dreams.
