🔑 What is Noun Number?
The Number of a Noun tells us whether it refers to one person/thing (singular) or more than one person/thing (plural).
Singular Number – Refers to one person, place, animal, or thing.
👉 Example: boy, girl, table, book, teacher, student
Plural Number – Refers to more than one.
👉 Example: boys, girls, tables, books, teachers, students
In competitive exams, questions are frequently asked on the formation of plurals and special cases.

📝 Rules for Changing Singular to Plural
Ashish Suman Sir covers all important rules in this video:
Rule 1: Adding -s
Most nouns form plurals by simply adding -s.
Book → Books
Pen → Pens
Table → Tables
Rule 2: Adding -es
When nouns end in -ch, -sh, -s, -ss, -x, -o, we add -es.
Box → Boxes
Bush → Bushes
Mango → Mangoes
Rule 3: Changing -y to -ies
If a noun ends in -y preceded by a consonant, change y to ies.
Baby → Babies
Lady → Ladies
👉 But: Boy → Boys (since vowel + y remains unchanged)
Rule 4: Changing -f / -fe to -ves
Wolf → Wolves
Knife → Knives
👉 But: Roof → Roofs
Rule 5: Irregular Plurals
Some nouns completely change in plural:
Man → Men
Woman → Women
Child → Children
Tooth → Teeth
Foot → Feet
Mouse → Mice
Rule 6: Same in Singular and Plural
Some nouns remain the same in both forms:
Sheep → Sheep
Deer → Deer
Series → Series
Rule 7: Compound Nouns
Brother-in-law → Brothers-in-law
Passer-by → Passers-by
