今天要和各位講三好人
Today I'm going to talk about
a man of threefold goodness.

人有好人、有壞人
There are good and bad men.
怎麼樣做一個好人呢
How to be a good man?
有三個條件
It can be done in three ways.
這三個條件在佛法裡面
In the Buddha Dharma,
these three ways refer to
講一個人
what is required of a man.
所謂造業
One creates
造善業、造惡業
good and evil karmas.
善有善報 惡有惡報
Good begets good; evil begets evil.

好人、善人就有善報
Good men receive good karmas;
惡人、壞人就有惡報
evil men receive evil karmas.
怎麼樣子叫作三好人呢
How to be a man of threefold goodness?
人有身、口、意
The karmas related to
one’s body, speech and mind
叫三業
are called the three karmas.
身體可以做好事
One can do good deeds physically.
什麼叫作好事呢
How to do good deeds？
比方不要殺害生命
For example, not to kill anybody’s life,
不要竊盜別人的財富
not to steal others’ belongings,
不要強暴別人的身體、名節
not to sexually abuse others.
就是不要殺、盜、邪淫
In short, no killing, stealing,
and sexual misconduct.

然後口要說好話
One should say good words too.
口怎麼樣說好話呢
How to say good words?
先要不說惡口
First, speak no abusive speech,
不說妄語
no false speech,
不要兩舌
no double-tongued speech,
不要綺語
and no gossip.
要說人家歡喜的話
Instead, say words people like to hear.
讚美的話
Praise them,

然後心要存好念
and keep a good mind.
所謂好念就是說
A good mind is one that is
不要貪欲
without greed, desire,
不要瞋恨、嫉妒
jealousy, hatred,
不要愚癡
and ignorance.

如果能可以
If possible,
剛才講的這個身、口、意
try to keep your body, speech and mind
不要做十惡
refrain from doing the ten evil deeds,
把它做十善 十種善事
and commit yourself to
the ten wholesome deeds.
這就叫好人
This is called a good man.

國際佛光會曾經推動
The BLIA once promoted
世界上三好運動
the Threefold Goodness Campaign
around the world,
希望每一個人做好人
hoping that every one will
try to be a good man
就是要身體要做善事
by doing good deeds,
口要說好話
saying good words,
心要存好念
and keeping a good mind.
這個三好人
We didn’t stop at a personal level,
進一步我們有三好家庭
we also advocated a family of
threefold goodness
全家的人
in which all members
都做好事
could do good deeds,
都說好話
say good words,
都存好心
and keep a good mind.
甚至還有三好學校
There were schools of
threefold goodness too.
學校裡面它推動這三好運動
The schools promoted the Threefold Goodness
Campaign by asking their students to
身、口、意
get involved physically,
verbally and mentally.
身做好事
One does good deeds,
口說好話
says good words,
心存好念
and keeps a good mind.
甚至我們有三好的團體
Even more, we had organizations
of threefold goodness,
有三好的工廠
factories of threefold goodness,
三好的公司
and companies of threefold goodness.
所以這個三好運動
The success of the Threefold
Goodness Campaign
在我們這個社會裡面
in society depends solely
大家幫忙來推動
on your help.
自己做三好人
Try to be a man of threefold goodness
讓我們的社會
so as to make society
都成為一個三好的社會
one of threefold goodness.
