This video presents an analytical review of the article:
“How to Cultivate Students’ Interests in Physics: A Challenge for Senior High School Teachers”
Written by Tomo Djudin
Published in Jurnal Pendidikan Sains, Volume 6, Number 1, March 2018, pages 16–22.
Published by Universitas Negeri Malang (UM).
In this presentation, I discuss the declining interest of students in physics and explore the underlying causes from an educational perspective. The article highlights how students’ interest in physics has declined globally over the last two decades and examines the situation in Indonesia, particularly in relation to STEM participation and science literacy (PISA).
This review explains:
• The global and national decline of students’ interest in physics
• The three-dimensional model of interest (content, context, and activity)
• The development process of interest (Catching, Holding, and Internalization – Krapp, 2002)
• Situational vs. Personal Interest
• Internal and external factors affecting students’ interest
• Challenges and strategies for physics teachers
The article concludes that the decline of students’ interest in physics is not mainly caused by students’ ability, but by instructional design that does not sufficiently integrate meaningful content, real-life context, and engaging learning activities.
This video is created as part of an English course assignment and aims to provide a deeper understanding of educational issues in physics learning.
