This old 4lb hammer "disappeared" for a few years. Then, as these things happen, I found it exactly where it was supposed to be. But not before I bought a replacement.
But then, you can never have enough sledge hammers!
Then that old hickory handle split as I was demolishing my sister's garden shed. Can you believe that? After just 40 years it gives up the ghost. Good thing you can still buy replacement handles.
And the hammer head? It's 60 years old at least! Maybe more.
The old handle was purchased at Beaver Lumber in some distant, long-forgotten aeon. I am a bit off in the video when I say that Beaver Lumber went out of business in the 1990's, it was sold by its parent, Molson's (the brewery) to Home Hardware in 1999. (I have a subtitle that says 2000 - that is incorrect.) However, in in the 90's Beaver Lumber was in decline and the one in my hometown closed earlier in the decade.
The name Beaver Lumber does somewhat live on as the Beaver Homes division of Home Hardware.
