Описание: The Nagapooshani Temple is an ancient and important Hindu temple on Nainativu Island in Sri Lanka, dedicated to Goddess Parvati (as Nagapooshani Amman) and Lord Shiva (as Nayinaar). It is one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas, believed to be the site where the anklet of the goddess Sati fell. The temple is significant for the Tamil people, has a history stretching back to antiquity, and attracts over 100,000 devotees during its annual festival.

About the temple
Deities: The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, known as Nagapooshani (the goddess who wears snakes as jewelry), and her consort Shiva, who is also known as Nayinaar or Rakshaseshwar.
Shakti Peetha: It is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas, believed to be a site where the anklet of Goddess Sati fell after her self-immolation.
Location: It is situated on the island of Nainativu (Manipallavam), which is located about 36 km from the ancient capital of the Jaffna kingdom.
History: The temple has ancient roots, with mentions in texts like Manimekalai. The current structure was built between 1720 and 1790 after the Portuguese destroyed the earlier one in 1620.
Significance: The temple is a major religious and cultural symbol for the Sri Lankan Tamil community.
Festivals: The annual festival, celebrated in the Tamil month of Aani, draws over 100,000 devotees.
Access: Access is typically by boat, with ferries available from the Kurikadduwan jetty.
