Reservoir sedimentation replaces water storage and causes a host of problems in lakes around the world. This problem is especially severe in Kansas, where crucial water supply lakes are threatened.
In this Sept. 12, 2025, talk, John Shelley, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Kansas, introduces major problems related to reservoir sedimentation and the most common sediment management strategies using examples from around the world. John also introduces the Tuttle Creek Lake Water Injection Dredging Demonstration Project, a large-scale novel dredging project at the Tuttle Creek Reservoir near Manhattan, Kansas, in fall 2025 and spring 2026.
John is introduced by Ted Harris, associate research professor at the Kansas Biological Survey & Center for Ecological Research. The talk ends at about 32:30, with Q&A following.
