India Seeks Additional S-400/S-500 Batteries** – Following the S-400’s success in Operation Sindoor (May 2025), where it achieved a historic 300 km kill against a Pakistani AWACS, the IAF is pushing for two more batteries of either the S-400 or the advanced S-500 system. This would complement India’s existing five S-400 squadrons (three delivered, two expected by 2026) and integrate with the indigenous Kusha air defense system (150–400 km range) by 2028–30 .
DRDO & IAF Analyze Chinese PL-15 Missile Debris** – After recovering a near-intact PL-15E missile (export variant used by Pakistan) in Punjab, India is studying its AESA radar seeker, propulsion, and guidance systems. The findings could enhance India’s Astra BVR missile and electronic warfare capabilities. Japan and Five Eyes nations have sought access to the debris for joint analysis.
30,000 Cr Indigenous UAV Program Approved** – The Defence Ministry cleared a deal for 87 Made-in-India MALE drones (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) for reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and precision strikes. Two manufacturers will split the contract (64:36 ratio) with strict local production mandates, including engines and payloads, to boost self-reliance and future exports.
These moves underscore India’s focus on bolstering air defense, countering adversarial tech, and expanding indigenous drone capabilities amid regional tensions.
