First, the design showcases cutting-edge advancements (and it’s expected that not everyone will appreciate it), and secondly, we see the first electrification of this legendary high-performance sedan.

BMW M5 (2024) Exterior
As you can see, the days of understated elegance for the BMW M5 are over. The new M5 is breaking new ground and is visually striking. The body features "subtle" sculpting, and the kidney grille is glossy black and almost completely closed. The side skirts and aprons make a bold statement, with the front featuring a large central air intake offset in black, and the rear boasting a prominent diffuser that also stands out in black, extending wide and dynamically from the rear apron. BMW itself describes the design as "monolithic."

BMW M5 (2024): Dimensions
Believe it or not, compared to the traditional 5 Series, the new M5 sedan is 78 millimeters wider at the front and 45 millimeters wider at the rear (measuring 5.09 meters in length and 1.97 meters in width). The trunk capacity is 466 liters, and it has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg.

BMW M5 (2024): Interior
The interior of the new BMW M5 is traditionally sporty, now featuring new materials and colors to further customize various details. Standard equipment includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel, wrap-around seats, a 4-zone automatic climate control system, and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

BMW M5 (2024): Engine
Despite its weight exceeding 2.5 tons with the driver, the new BMW M5 will stir discussions with its new plug-in hybrid powertrain. It combines a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, the same as in the XM, producing 727 HP and 1,000 Nm of torque.

The main contributor to the additional weight is the battery, located under the floor, with a net capacity of 18.6 kWh, providing a claimed all-electric range of 69 km and a maximum AC charging rate of 7.4 kW.

Performance
The Bavarian super sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The previous M5 Competition did it in 3.3 seconds, and the M5 CS in just 3.0 seconds. It reaches 200 km/h in 10.9 seconds, but the M5 CS is half a second faster. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, which can be increased to 305 km/h with an optional package.

Power and torque are delivered to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, with the ability to favor the rear axle, allowing for smoky drifts when the ESP is turned off.

BMW has equipped its new hybrid flagship with up to five operating modes: Hybrid, Electric, and eControl, which maintains the charge level, come as standard. Optional modes include Dynamic and Dynamic Plus for track use, with cooling and performance systems adjusted accordingly—sustained longer in Dynamic, and at peak for a short period in Dynamic Plus.

This new BMW M5 sets a new standard in design and performance, marrying traditional power with modern hybrid technology for a unique driving experience.
