Spain’s Foreign Minister has highlighted the long-awaited Gibraltar treaty as a key priority in his New Year message, saying the historic agreement is expected to finally come into effect at some point in 2026, though without committing to a specific date.
In his New Year message, José Manuel Albares also highlighted key events for Spain, including the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to a strong and united Europe as it marks 40 years since joining the then European Communities.
