This is my best attempt at creating a good rhythm guitar tone while using VST's. It's inspired by the tone of Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth. I used two different chains here, a dark one and a bright one, and blended them together for a very full sounding guitar. The secret is that the blend of these two amps made it possible to get the very deep and punchy chunk-sound and the twangy, high-endy attack kind of sound together in one patch. Makes practicing a lot more fun! It would probably sound miles better if it was double/quad tracked, but as I use this as a live tone for practicing I felt it wouldn't be fair to do that here. Feel free to copy.
Been playing some riffs from Dante's Inferno, Birth of the Wicked, Written on the Walls/Cast in Stone and Last December.
I used a Les Paul Classic with Faber hardware and IceBucker pickups, but any Les Paul with matching PAF-style pickups will probably work very well! I've been playing off-and-on for a little under three years, but I've become much, much more serious about it in the past two months. As you can hear I am struggling a little bit near the end of the video. I probably would have sounded better with a metronome, because I lost the groove a couple of times. Also still need a lot practice with the 120BPM 16th note downpicks from Last December. My right hand is pummeling at the bridge so fast that I tend to lose contact between my palm and the B and E strings, which is why you hear those ring :).
