Kashmir has faced stagnation in the past 25 years, but there has been peace. In recent times, some sectors, especially horticulture and tourism, have seen growth. Handicrafts and horticulture have suffered in the past, but the situation has improved significantly now. According to Ashaq Shangloo, president of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, there is increasing demand for Kashmiri apples and walnuts across India, and efforts are underway to export these to Gulf countries too. Although tourism experienced a strong boost after COVID, infrastructure challenges persist, said Shangloo in an exclusive interview with The Federal.
