A true relic of the Reagan era, this spot comes from the infamously heavy-handed Think Again! anti-marijuana campaign—an effort so intense even the “Just Say No” crowd thought it might’ve overshot the runway. With effects commissioned by “The Godfather of Gore”, Tom Savini, the ads premiered in prime time during an episode of Family Ties, and stations were immediately flooded with calls from viewers insisting the graphic imagery made them physically ill.

According to Ad Weekly (June 13, 1986), an early test screening shown to a packed auditorium of high schoolers allegedly caused mass nausea, sending more than seventy-five students to the hospital after a chain-reaction vomit wave swept the room.

When asked about the incident, Nancy Reagan reportedly quipped, “Well, I bet those kids won’t keep their lunch down the next time someone offers them the doobie.”

But, as High Times (September 1986) later noted, all that moral-panic messaging went up in smoke when that same school won MTV’s “Rock the Class!” contest—where MTV took over the campus for a day, and Run-D.M.C., the Beastie Boys, and the robot from Rocky IV, allegedly locked the auditorium doors and turned it into a full-blown clambake. By the time the haze cleared, more than 240 students were, as the report delicately put it, “extremely inspired to just say yes.”
