This video shows the process to remove the old splinter guard on Dewalt track saw tracks and replace it or repair it.
Replacement Steps:
1) Remove old rubber
2) Use lacquer thinner with a brush to loosen the glue and use a stiff scraper with a chisel edge to scrape the glue. Work down the edge until the bulk of the glue is removed.
3) Repeat as necessary with the scraper and switch to a cloth with lacquer thinner for final cleanup until no sticky residue remains.
4) Attach new strip (Makita 194419-4 118" Splinter Guard Replacement Strip, Black https://a.co/d/0qpf8WK) and use a roller to help it evenly adhere.
5) Let adhesive cure before use. I waited a day for good measure.
For repairs:
Use the lacquer thinner on both the track and the splinter guard where it is separated. Scrape off the glue and wipe with a rag with more lacquer thinner. Add a thin layer of contact cement to both the rubber and the track, keep glued parts separate until they are dry (10-15) minutes. Then carefully stick the rubber back down and use the roller to adhere it. Allow the glue to cure before use.
