The holiday season is often described as the greatest time of the year—but the truth is, it doesn’t feel that way for everyone. For some staff members and students, this season brings uncertainty, stress, and real concerns about basic needs, including access to food and nutrition.
In this video, we focus on practical leadership strategies to support staff and students who may be struggling during the holidays, beginning with food security. When school is out, many students and even staff lose access to consistent meals they rely on during the school day. That gap can create anxiety and hardship that often goes unseen.
As leaders, we have an opportunity—and a responsibility—to connect our school communities to local food resources, district food pantries, and community support systems that ensure everyone has what they need to get through the holiday season.
In this video, you’ll learn how to:
• Identify food insecurity during school breaks
• Connect families, staff, and students to local resources
• Partner with community organizations
• Use district food pantries effectively
• Support dignity and confidentiality
• Lead with compassion and awareness
• Strengthen school culture through care and action
Small, intentional steps can make a meaningful difference. Supporting food security is one of the most impactful ways school leaders can care for their communities during high-stress seasons.
This message is designed for principals, assistant principals, teachers, counselors, and school leaders who want to lead with empathy and create a culture of support—especially when it matters most.
