💥 This week’s highlights include:
1) Tejas Mk-2 moves into a crucial stage with taxi trials approaching and first flight clearance progressing.
India’s Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter is nearing its first flight, with the prototype almost complete and certification being fast-tracked. Taxi trials will soon test its braking, steering, and control.Developed by ADA and HAL, the Mk2 is a major upgrade for the Indian Air Force, set to replace older Jaguar, Mirage 2000, and MiG-29 fleets, with plans for 110–120 jets.Larger and more capable than the Mk1A, it features greater fuel capacity, a payload of about 6.5 tonnes across 11 hardpoints, and advanced systems like the indigenous Uttam AESA radar—positioning it between light and heavy fighters with improved flexibility and maintainability.
2) South Korea’s K9MH 155mm mobile howitzer boosts its firing rate to 9 rounds per minute with a new autoloader.
Hanwha Aerospace unveiled the K9MH 155mm mobile howitzer, boosting automated firepower and mobility to meet growing Western demand for fast, survivable artillery.Built on the proven K9 platform, it features a wheeled Tatra 8x8 chassis and a new autoloader, raising the fire rate to 8–9 rounds per minute while reducing crew workload. The design improves “shoot-and-scoot” survivability and supports rapid deployment, lower maintenance, and high-tempo operations in modern combat environments.
3) Spain offers four Navantia Alfa 4000 vessels by 2031 for Sweden’s Luleå-class frigate program.
Navantia COO Gonzalo Mateo-Guerrero has unveiled a €3 billion bid for Sweden’s Luleå-class frigate program, offering four Alfa 4000 ships by 2031 to boost Sweden’s NATO maritime capabilities. The new frigates would be far larger than the current Visby-class, improving range and mission flexibility in the Baltic.
The 4,300-ton Alfa 4000 features a 16-cell vertical launch system, anti-ship missiles, advanced sonar, and a helicopter hangar. Navantia also plans to integrate Swedish systems like Saab’s combat management suite. The bid competes with France’s FDI and the Arrowhead 120 ahead of a final decision.
4) Australia orders three upgraded Mogami-class frigates in Japan’s biggest-ever defense export deal.
Australia has confirmed the purchase of three new general-purpose frigates, accelerating its fleet upgrade and boosting naval readiness as Anzac-class ships near retirement.Built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and based on the Mogami-class, the ships feature enhanced stealth, automation, and multi-role capability for anti-submarine warfare, surface combat, and regional operations. At about 5,500 tons and 133 meters long, the design reduces radar and acoustic signatures through sloped surfaces and an integrated mast housing sensors and communications.
5) Greece takes delivery of its 50th F-16V Viper, boosting speed and strike capability over the Aegean.
Greece has received its 50th F-16V Viper under a Lockheed Martin-led upgrade, boosting its air combat capabilities and response speed in contested airspace.
The program is modernizing 84 F-16s at Tanagra, with plans to upgrade 38 more. Expanding the Viper standard across up to 121 jets will improve interoperability and align operations with Rafale and future F-35 fleets in the Eastern Mediterranean.
