Pirith was chanted by Lord Buddha to bless human beings from evil powers around the home environment. The power of Pirith comes from its sounds and meaning. The word piritha came out from the Pali word paratha. There are several pirith in Buddhism. All of them include the great qualities of Lord Buddha and the value of his teachings. However, some of them include positive messages to society. Mostly, the importance of treating well to your parents, the value of generosity, and the positive results of good deeds are among them.
The ‘Paritta’ in the Pali language is for protection & safeguard, this is a chanting and reciting of Buddha’s wisdom in verses with his blessings to wipe away the fears, misfortunes, and danger and to bring blessings and peace to the mind . The ‘Paritta’ contains several powerful ‘Suttas’, the wisdom put into verses with power and protection, offering blessings throughout the reciting of the ‘Paritta’.The practice of reciting the Buddha's verses has been since the beginning of Buddhist history by the Buddhist monks, as the Buddha himself had recited them during the times of epidemics and plagues to bring peace and tranquility to humankind. It is believed in the Buddhist culture that reciting these Buddha’s ‘dhamma’ the Buddha’s wisdom, can bring healing power protection, and peace to the mind of anyone. May all living beings be blessed with this blessing and reciting of this ‘Paritta’ and let this bring peace, protection, and tranquillity to our lives!!
