A New Canal Lock Is Taking Shape on a 250-Year-Old Canal

Описание: In this episode (Part 22) of my Chesterfield Canal restoration series, I return to Staveley to film the latest progress on the brand-new canal lock that is now taking shape on this historic 1770s waterway. This project is a major milestone in the long-term restoration of the Chesterfield Canal, where engineers and volunteers are rebuilding a lost section of canal that was closed and infilled decades ago.

From the Trans Pennine Trail bridge, I capture how the lock side walls and reinforcement structure are already transforming the landscape, bringing this important route for inland waterways, industry and transport history one step closer to reopening. I also provide an update on Bellhouse Basin, where original reclaimed stonework is being used to rebuild the narrows, and take a short detour to explore Mill Green Bridge – one of the canal’s original structures and a reminder of how closely canals, railways and industry shaped this part of Derbyshire.
